- This delegate is presenting an abstract at this event.
Ronan Kapetanovic is a Senior Research Officer at The Institute for Molecular Bioscience at the University of Queensland.
He passed his PhD at the Pasteur Institute (2008 - Paris, France), investigating how macrophages detect and respond to Staphylococcus aureus. He then moved to Edinburgh (Scotland) to work in the group of Pr David Hume at the Roslin Institute (2009-2013), studying the macrophage inflammatory response in pigs in comparison to to human and mouse.
In 2013, Ronan obtained a ARC DECRA fellowship and moved to Australia in the group of Prof Matthew Sweet. His interests are the differences in gene regulation between species and host-pathogen interactions in macrophages. Ronan is currently searching for new approaches to enhance antibacterial response in macrophages, in particular linked to zinc toxicity, mitochondria dynamics and post-transciptional modifcation of key inflammatory molecules.
