Simon A Jones is currently associate director for infection & immunity research at the School of Medicine in Cardiff University. His research investigates the immunological mechanisms that drive transition from acute resolving inflammation to chronic inflammatory disease. Specifically, studies explore the molecular mechanisms that initiate onset of chronic inflammatory disease, and is based on an interest in the regulation of leukocyte recruitment, their activation and interaction with the stromal compartment. Using a combination of clinical samples, in vivo model systems and in vitro approaches studies examine the cytokine networks that govern the balance between competent host defence and inflammation-induced tissue damage. These studies being primarily focused on the immuno-regulation of anti-microbial host defence and the progression of inflammatory arthritis.
