Dr. David Jans, (Ph.D.), is currently a full Professor with a personal Chair within the Dept. of Biochemistry and Mol. Biology, at Monash University (Clayton, Melbourne, Australia), a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC, Australia) Senior Principal Research Fellow (SPRF1), and Head of the Nuclear Signalling Lab., and Member of the NHMRC Academy. He got his B Sc in Microbiology at the University of Melbourne and Ph D in Biochemistry at the Australian National University (Canberra). His research over the last 18 years has focused on the regulation of transport into and out of the eukaryotic cell nucleus, and how this relates to viral disease, cancer and development, and how it may be exploited for drug delivery. He has >250 peer-reviewed publications in eminent journals (close to 10,000 citations; H-factor of 56), has served as committee member of the International Photodynamic Association (2005-2011), and currently serves as an editorial board member of Biochemical Journal (since 2006), Biochem Biophys Acta Mol Cell Res (since 2010) and Antiviral Res (since 2012). His various awards and prizes include the IRPC (International Research Progress Council) Eminent Scientist of the Year 1999, Danny Thomas Lecture Series Visiting Professor, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis 2005, GE Healthcare Bio-Sciences Award for Innovation in Research 2005, and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Senior Short-term Fellowship 2008.
